"Aruvippuram is a village lying on the banks of Neyyar river in the southern district of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. It is an important pilgrimage centre in the region. The place has a beautiful waterfall. The temple of Lord Shiva is the main attraction. This temple has great historical and social significance. At a time when tradition strictly allowed only Brahamins to install deities, a non- Brahmin, the great social reformer Sree Narayana Guru ventured to do it breaking the centuries old Brahmin monopoly. Shivratri is the main festival celebrated in the temple. Thousands of devotees gather here to take part in the celebration. The nearest Airport is Trivandrum International Airport and Neyyattinkara Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station.

The temple is of great historical and social importance as the shivling was installed by the great social reformer Shri Narayana Guru in AD 1888, on the Shivratri day. A caparisoned elephant carries the image of the deity in a grand procession in the evening and the festival concludes with the Aarattu. Shri Narayana Guru Jayanthi is also celebrated in a grand manner. There is a cave on top of a nearby hill and it is believed that Guru meditated here. The nearest Airport is Trivandrum International Airport and Neyyattinkara Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station."
