What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Bir Shikargah Wildlife Sanctuary for its scenic drives and the potential for wildlife sightings, particularly its role in vulture conservation. It's considered a good spot for day trips from nearby cities, offering a peaceful escape into nature. However, some reviewers note that road conditions can be poor in certain areas, which might detract from the overall experience.
"Bir Shikargah is a sanctuary in the foothills of North Haryana adjacent to Himachal. Access is from the pinjore underpass and bridge across the kaushalya river when one is doing the Simla/Kalka expressway. Another route is via the Amravati/ Chokhi Dhani cut or one can circle back from mallah side after taking the Chandimandir market slip road. The plae owes its charm to the relatively unspoilt local villages and meandering roads though the very dense eucalyptus around the roads shows the hands of pulp farmers et al, a bane across the region right up to yamunanagar/jagadhri.
USP of the place is the attempt at vulture conservation ongoing and the few mushrooming getaways that would persuade you to go local. Some small temples but excellent trampling areas as underbrush is not too dense. If the officials are to be believed, you have some cat activity but loads of smaller mammals that use the terrain to their advantage.
For chandigarhites, it is a pocket sized gem to be savoured for day trips before the goprovalas become a rash!"
