Today, after visiting Somnath temple, I went to the serene and spiritually significant place known as Shree Dehotsarg Tirth, located on the banks of the Holy River Hiran, just a few kilometers away from Veraval This site is believed to be the exact spot where Lord Shri Krishna left his mortal body and ascended to his divine abode, marking the end of the Dwapar Yuga and the beginning of Kali Yuga.
The word Dehotsarg literally means “relinquishing the body.” According to legend, after the great Mahabharata war and the completion of his divine purpose, Shri Krishna chose this peaceful place for his final departure. Sitting in meditation under a peepal tree, he was struck by an arrow from a hunter named Jara, who mistook him for a deer. Far from being a tragedy, this incident is revered as a divine act, where the Lord concluded his earthly incarnation with serenity and grace.
As I walked around the premises, I saw the footprints of Shri Krishna preserved for devotees. The sound of the flowing Hiran River, the calm breeze, and the quiet atmosphere filled the air with deep spirituality. The site also has inscriptions and small shrines narrating the story of Krishna’s departure. Pilgrims consider it highly auspicious to visit this tirth along with Somnath temple, as both are interconnected in faith and history.
Standing here, one feels a unique blend of history, mythology, and devotion. The peaceful surroundings inspire reflection on the eternal cycle of life and the divine purpose behind existence. Truly, Shree Dehotsarg Tirth is not just a place of pilgrimage but a reminder of the timeless legacy of Shri Krishna."
