What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple for its divine atmosphere and the majestic idol of Lord Ganesha. The temple is described as a place of immense peace and spiritual energy, even amidst large crowds. While the VIP pass system is debated, the overall experience is considered deeply fulfilling and a must-visit in Pune.
"Cool visit to the temple. Still worth a visit if it's not your religion, just be respectful. They do this nameste pose with their hands then put their hands on the rail and touch their forhead to your hands to pay respects, kinda like this emoji "🙏". Very clean, people are nice and usually sit down for a moment to pray and pay respect after the initial line. There are 3 different gods/saints."

"A Soulful First Visit to Pune – Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple Experience
This was my first-ever visit to Pune, Maharashtra, and I made sure to start it with a visit to the iconic Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple — and honestly, it was more than just a temple visit, it was a spiritual experience.
As soon as I entered the area, I could feel the energy. The atmosphere around the temple is vibrant and full of devotion. The temple itself is stunning — not overly grand in size, but it carries an aura that you can feel deep within. The idol of Lord Ganesha is majestic and divinely beautiful — it's hard to look away once you’re in front of it.
🙏 The Crowd & Devotion
There was a huge number of devotees, even on a regular weekday. It’s amazing how many people come just to get a glimpse, a Darshan, of Lord Ganesha. It’s a powerful sight — hundreds of people waiting patiently, eyes filled with faith. That kind of collective devotion is rare and powerful to witness.
🚶♂️ About the VIP Pass
Now here’s a thought I had — there is an option for a VIP pass, which allows quicker access to the Darshan. Personally, I feel such passes should be reserved for people who truly fall under the “VIP” category — like the elderly, disabled, or officials who are on strict time constraints. Unfortunately, nowadays VIP passes are becoming more of a money-making tool, which somewhere takes away from the essence of equality in faith. But again, to each their own.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The History and Significance of Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati
The temple quickly gained prominence, becoming one of the most revered Ganesh shrines in Maharashtra. Its significance is amplified during the annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival, a 10-day celebration where the temple becomes the heart of the city's devotion. Over a lakh (100,000+) devotees visit annually, making it a major pilgrimage site.
Beyond its historical roots, the temple is also known for its impressive donations and perceived wealth, often referred to as one of India's richest Ganpati temples. This wealth is channeled back into community service and charitable activities, further cementing its role as a benevolent institution.
Experiencing Darshan and Temple Etiquette
When visiting, it's important to observe temple etiquette. This includes removing your footwear before entering the main shrine and dressing modestly, covering shoulders and knees. Many devotees engage in a moment of quiet prayer and reflection after their darshan, a practice that contributes to the serene atmosphere. The queues are generally well-managed by guards, ensuring a smooth flow of devotees.
For those seeking a quicker darshan, a VIP pass is available. However, some visitors note that these passes are sometimes seen as a means of generating revenue rather than being exclusively for those with genuine needs, like the elderly or disabled. Regardless of the pass, the main idol is often visible even from outside the sanctum, allowing for a glimpse of Bappa's divine presence.
The Pune to Phuket Connection
This connection was reportedly facilitated by a 30-day journey and the unwavering devotion of a Thai individual, creating a remarkable bond between the two locations. The presence of an identical idol in Thailand underscores the widespread reverence for Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati and its ability to transcend geographical boundaries.
