Radha Kund is a sacred pond (kund) located near Govardhan Hill in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.
It is believed to be the most holy place in the entire universe, because it represents Srimati Radharani’s pure love for Lord Krishna.
1. Krishna kills Aristasura
Once, a demon named Aristasura came to Vrindavan in the form of a huge bull.
He attacked the villagers and cows.
Lord Krishna fought with the bull and killed him to protect everyone.
But when Krishna went to meet Radha and the gopis afterward, they refused to talk to him.
2. Radha’s playful anger
Radha said,
“You have killed a bull — the symbol of dharma and Lord Shiva’s servant.
You are now impure. We cannot meet you until you purify yourself.”
Krishna smiled and asked how he could purify himself.
3. Krishna creates Shyama Kund
Radha replied, “You must take a holy bath in all sacred rivers.”
Then Krishna struck the ground with his heel, and instantly all the holy rivers — Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Narmada, and others — appeared before him.
They filled the pit he made, creating a beautiful pond — now called Shyama Kund.
Krishna bathed in that pond and declared himself purified.
4. Radha creates Radha Kund
Radha and her friends laughed and said,
“You made your own pond — we will make ours!”
So they began digging the ground nearby with their bangles and hands.
The divine rivers again appeared and filled that pond too — this became Radha Kund.
5. Union of the Two Kunds
When Krishna saw Radha’s devotion, he declared:
“Radha Kund is even more sacred than mine, because it is created by Radharani herself.”
He then joined both ponds together.
Thus, Radha Kund and Shyama Kund became eternal symbols of their divine union — Radha’s pure love and Krishna’s eternal devotion to her.
