Reviews Summary

Serolsar Lake is lauded for its breathtaking natural beauty, serene atmosphere, and the spiritual significance of its temple. The trek through dense forests is a highlight, offering a refreshing escape into nature. However, visitors should be cautious during winter due to icy trails and consider hiring local guides for safety and navigation. InstagramReddit

"a 5-6 km one side trek from Jalori pass, a walk through dense forest, and an easy to moderate hike.

the lake has a temple and many surrounding villagers visit it regularly to offer their prayers.

Most of the pathway is paved and marked by forest department but it does get lonely in between, especially if you are visiting on a weekday with less tourists.

Some food joints (and camps for the night stay) are available near the lake but it is advisable to carry water and food items if you are with elders or kids as the hike is long.

One of the two hikes at Jalori pass, another one being Raghupur fort. It takes a full day and it would be tough for one to do both hikes in one day. If one can do only one hike and has only one day, Raghupur fort is better for the views it offers."

"This trek is relatively easy, but only during summer. In 2nd week of Feb, half path was found covered with black ice, making it difficult to navigate, especially on the narrow stretches. At certain points, the trail becomes extremely slim, with a steep valley running alongside it.

We began our trek at 8 AM, but upon reaching Jalori Pass, we found it completely deserted—no open shops, no guides, nothing. It turns out that services only become available after 9 AM. Thinking the trail was straightforward, we set off without a guide.

Midway through, we encountered tow openings in the path and got confused about which route to take. We tried both, assuming they would eventually merge, but as we advanced, the trail became increasingly steep and treacherous with black ice. At one point, we had no choice but to turn back, feeling disappointed.

Just then, three local women from Khanag village appeared, heading toward the lake. They kindly offered to guide us for ₹800 since we had already covered half the distance (the standard guide fee from base to base is ₹1500).

With their help, we finally reached Serolsar Lake, which was completely frozen—a breathtaking, surreal sight. It was one of the most beautiful things I had seen in a long time. The Devi Temple nearby was another highlight, where we sat for a while, soaking in the serenity.

Afterward, we visited a small tapri owned by the same lady who had guided us, had our meal there, and then made our way back.

Unfortunately, due to the two hours we lost trying to find the correct trail, we couldn’t do the Raghupur Fort trek. Locals mentioned that it was even steeper than the Serolsar Lake trail and covered in black ice during winter. Do wear proper shoes while hiking, and carry a stick (helped us a lot to find proper grip at many places). The snow boots are given on rent at the Jalori pass for 100/- each and stick for 30/- each.

Shared the guide details in the images."

"There is 5 km trek from the Jalori Pass to this beautiful lake. We visited it in winter so it was completely frozen. The difficulty level is easy to moderate. There are cafes 500m away from the lake but would recommend to carry some food along."
