"The Shimla Kali Bari Temple is an old, ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, who is also known as Shyamala. It is hence also believed that the Shimla city is named after the goddess Shyamala.
The Shimla Kali Bari Temple is located
on the Bantony Hill, near Mall Road, beyond the Scandal Point.
As the story goes, this temple was originally built in the vicinity of Rothney Castle on the Jakhoo Hill, in the year 1845, by a Bengali Brahmin Priest, Ram Charan Brahamchari but the British shifted the location of the temple to the Bantony Hill.
The temple is run by a trust which was initially formed in the year 1902 and mainly consists of Bengali members .
The idol of the main deity, Goddess Kali, is made of wood, painted blue.
The temple is easily accessible from the Mall Road by walking but beware of monkeys in the area and the temple.
There is another temple of lord Shiva within the precincts. The courtyard of the Kali Bari is open and spacious.
The road leading to the temple is lined up with temporary shops. Inside the temple, there is a provision of keeping shoes and for washing hands ."
