"🌳 Siva Ganga Park – A Walk Down Memory Lane with a Modern Touch 🌳
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Siva Ganga Park, located right next to the iconic Big Temple of Thanjavur and beside Schwartz Church, has always been close to my heart. Its name comes from the nearby “Ganga” water tank, and it used to be my favorite childhood picnic spot during summer holidays.
Over the years, the park has changed a lot. I fondly remember the days when there were small animals, birds in cages, a charming toy train on metal tracks, and even a rope car over the water tank. Sadly, most of these are no longer in operation. The train now runs on rubber wheels, and the rope car seems to be non-functional. The deer and other animals that once delighted visitors are also gone—perhaps returned to the forest.
That said, the park has made space for new attractions. There are air-filled slides and fun rides for children, maintained by private vendors who charge a very reasonable fare. It’s a delight for kids, and families will find plenty of space to relax and play.
The park is clean, especially the toilet facilities for both men and women—which are surprisingly well-maintained and odor-free (a big plus!). A swimming pool is also under development, and I hope it adds more life to the place once completed.
One suggestion: the park still has many open spaces that could benefit from more trees. Adding more greenery would make it cooler and breezier, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
Despite the changes, Siva Ganga Park remains a lovely place to unwind, especially with children. It’s peaceful, family-friendly, and continues to hold its charm in the heart of Thanjavur.
