"Saint thiagaraja temple at the banks of River cauvery in tiruvaiyaru. Yearly festival happens during Bahula panchami thithi, when the saints panchatranam are sung by all the carnatic musicians in unison. A must visit place"

"A lovely , peaceful sanctuary of divinity dedicated to the great Saint Thyagaraja , one of “The Trinity of Carnatic Music” . Developing a forgotten samadhi into this holy place was the lifetime achievement of the great lady Bangalore Nagarathnammal , who chose to spend her last years here , completely devoted to the worship of the Divine composer and his chosen diety Sri Ramachandra. Her samadhi too is nearby , facing the samadhi of Thyagarajar. ( The book “The Devadasi and The Saint “ by Sriram.V is a great resource to fully appreciate the history and importance of this place) .
The Annual Thyagaraja Aradhana is observed here by all professional and lay singers of Carnatic Music .
At present , a descendant of Thyagarajar’s family , is in charge of this place , worshipping the same Sri Rama icon that Thyagaraja did and continuing the same Unchavriddhi tradition . He lives nearby and kindly opens the shrines for any visitor, any time.
The Hall of The Valmiki Mantapam , which houses the saint’s samadhi and the shrine of Rama , has walls covered with slabs inscribed with the kritis ( lyrics) composed by Sri Tyagaraja. Huge portrait paintings of the saintly composer can also be seen .
Situated on the sandy bank of the broad, quiet flowing Kaveri , this serene place is a must visit for anyone interested in Carnatic Music."
