"My first & a greatest experience to watch the night sky through the lens of telescope. Saw Cirius,Jupiter & its 4 moons, proxy centauri, Thiruvathira star, hunter constellation, nebula, earth's moon etc.
Staffs are very cooperative & polite enough to explain the details of celestial bodies as well as clearing our doubts patiently.
Functional between 6:30 pm to 8 pm,except for second Saturday & Sunday. Make sure the sky is clear & weather is favorable, best to visit during partial moon 🌙. Rs 25 per adult."

"Perched atop a hill, offering panoramic vistas of the cityscape below, the astronomical observatory in Thiruvananthapuram stands as a beacon of scientific inquiry and astronomical exploration. Situated at an elevation of approximately 60 meters above sea level, this esteemed institution boasts a rich legacy dating back to its establishment in 1837.

Conceived by the visionary Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Swathi Tirunal, the observatory was envisioned as a bastion of astronomical research and meteorological observation. Fueled by the Maharaja's passion for astronomy, the observatory was equipped with state-of-the-art instruments imported from Europe, setting new standards for scientific excellence in the region.

Over the years, the observatory has evolved into one of India's foremost astronomical centers, boasting modern facilities and cutting-edge technology. From its 11-inch telescope and CCD camera to its sophisticated image processing facility, the observatory stands at the forefront of astronomical research and observation.

In addition to its scientific endeavors, the observatory also serves as an educational hub, offering computational facilities, a comprehensive library, and audio-video resources for students of the University of Kerala. Sky-watching programs, organized in the evenings, provide a unique opportunity for students, teachers, and the general public to marvel at the wonders of the cosmos and deepen their understanding of astronomy.

Amidst the tranquil surroundings of its rose-adorned garden, the observatory continues to inspire generations of scientists, scholars, and enthusiasts alike, fostering a spirit of curiosity and discovery that transcends boundaries and ignites the imagination. As it stands poised on the cusp of the future, the observatory remains a shining beacon of scientific inquiry and astronomical exploration, reminding us of the boundless possibilities that lie beyond the stars."
