"Vilachery a village at 18 km from Madurai city, famous for doll making.Since I was destined to be in Madurai by the blessings of Lord Meenakshi I thought of making the most of it.
Doll making can be traced way back to 1965. Artisans who make dolls are called Velars. While sauntering through the narrow streets on a bright Sunday morning, I noticed houses arrayed neatly with kolu dolls. i was told that the village has 200 families each into the same business. The houses were stacked in rows and the kolu dolls and terracotta horses were arranged neatly inside. Each colourful events of life was depicted through dolls. The army of Kolu dolls stacked neatly ranges from Rs.100 to Rs.50,000.
These dolls are arranged and kept along with Maa Durga during Navaratri."

However, it's important to manage expectations. Some reviews suggest that the 'collection' might be limited in certain homes, and the overall business structure is somewhat unorganized.
