The village is managed by the government, and they charge an entrance fee. The revenue generated from this fee is invested in the village and its inhabitants.
The village boasts beautiful houses made of wood and roofs made of palm tree fiber. These structures are remarkably sturdy and have stood the test of time. I was fortunate enough to be invited into one of the households, where I was served local tea and shared in their traditions and way of life. Many of the residents are descendants of Portuguese immigrants and continue to live here. In this region, women hold significant authority, which is quite impressive. They even taught me a local game that I couldn’t quite grasp until the end and lost miserably.
Overall, it was one of the most memorable experiences I had in Flores. They even gifted me a souvenir as I bid them goodbye."
