"Nice little village although it’s a bit hollow in terms of ‘traditional’ now I guess with the transformation of the area and tourism focus. The village tour itself is also short - not much to see.
They only put shows on when demand requires it - tours etc. So if you just drop by driving from Kuta by motorbike for the day there likely won’t be one.
I was interested in the construction of their homes (made from cow dung, Clay and straw) and got to see inside which I found quite insightful. They were surprisingly cool in the heat and the guide gave insight into the sleeping arrangements.
However, it’s no longer that traditional as they claim, since they have modern tools everywhere (understandably so). The funnest part was having some jousting with the sticks and shield!
It is geared towards extracting money from tourists it didn’t feel that homely if I’m honest and the guide we had didn’t even stay there… they try to sell you something at every corner and bring you to their village gift shop at the end. For context I asked how many people are leaving with modernisation and he said about 60%.
There is lots of guides waiting there and entry is not permitted without one - cost 60k per person.
Although it was nice to see we had a similar traditional village visit on Bali (different to Lombok), which felt more like they cared about their local environment and culture, which I just didn’t feel here."

"Extremely touristic focus. Guides want to scam you telling you that you have to go with a guide but that is not true.
We wanted to do a donation to the village and the guide at the entrance wanted at least 50K of donation.
It’s ok, it’s not about the quantity but about how the person asked us: seeing tourists as only a source of money.
Donations are up to you. We wanted to give more but seeing the attitude of the guide we didn’t."
