"Very good fish and food! Had the grouper fish and it was very tender and we did bargain a little bit big felt fair with the price. Feel like all the shops offer quite the same food but we went with kedai para ikatte and it was yum, good portion and no stomach problems!"

"Night seafood stalls along the water front. Choose and buy from one of them, then take a table behind the stall close to the water.
Went three nights during the stay here. Seafoods were generally well cooked and delicious. Do expect to pay a tourist price if you are foreigners. Try your best to bargain."

"For the love of god, do not leave Labuan Bajo without eating here once. You can do grilled or fried with anything you chose. Super fresh ingredients, fun and local vibe. We got one grilled snapper and one fried grouper and fried calamari with some rice and vegetables. All was excellent but the fried calamari ( they batter it too) and the grilled snapper stole the show. We are going back tonight to try the grilled mahi mahi and more calamari. The shrimp and clams looked great too, we just don’t like shell fish as much in general."

The Labuan Bajo Night Market Experience
Visitors can choose their own seafood – from plump prawns to whole fish and squid – directly from the stalls. The vendors then prepare it to your liking, with grilling and frying being the most popular methods. This interactive element adds to the market's charm, allowing you to customize your meal.
While the market offers a fantastic dining experience, it's important to be aware of potential downsides. Some visitors note that prices can be inflated for tourists, making bargaining essential. Additionally, the smoky environment from the grills can be intense for some.
Navigating the Seafood Selection and Preparation
Once you've made your selection, you'll typically take it to a vendor who will cook it for you. The most common preparations are grilled (bakar) and fried (goreng). Grilled seafood often comes with a flavorful marinade, while fried options can be crispy and delicious. Many visitors rave about the grilled snapper and fried calamari.
It's worth noting that while the seafood is generally well-cooked and tasty, some reviews mention it can be dry or lack flavor if not prepared expertly. This is where choosing a reputable stall and perhaps observing what others are ordering can be helpful.
Ethical Considerations at the Market
This practice has led to strong recommendations for visitors to avoid supporting these specific stalls. By choosing not to purchase from vendors engaging in such practices, travelers can send a message against animal cruelty and encourage more humane treatment of marine life.
While the market offers a vibrant culinary scene, it's crucial for travelers to be mindful of ethical considerations and make informed choices about where they spend their money.
