Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya for its impressive scale, serene atmosphere, and the incredibly affordable and delicious vegetarian food served at its canteen and cafe. While some note its unique spiritual blend beyond traditional Buddhism, most find it a peaceful and worthwhile destination for prayer, reflection, and a satisfying meal.

"This is the largest Buddhist Temple complex in Batam, consists of Temple, Monastery, School and University. They also have restaurant (for vegetarian food) and coffee shop. Plenty of people visit this Temple, so be prepared. On the coffee shop, they also have nice breads and also good coffee."

"I often visit this vihara to pray and seek guidance—its serene grounds and graceful architecture immediately calm the mind. The on-site vegan restaurant offers a delicious variety of vegetarian dishes at very affordable prices, and the neighboring café feels like a true sanctuary where I can clear my thoughts over a perfect cup of coffee.

A peaceful haven that nourishes both spirit and body with every visit."

"Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Monastery is a nice place to relax and have your meal. But do note that this is not a real Buddhist Temple. It is actually a worshipping place for Yiguandao/I-Kuan Tao (一貫道) disguised as a Buddhist Temple. Don't believe? Inside this temple, you will see many photos of I-Kuan Tao patriarch Zhang Tianran and matriarch Sun Suzhen。
Even in the Hall of Guanyin(觀音殿),you will see a statue of Maitreya infront of the statue of Guanyin, which defies orthodox Buddhist practices."
