"This mountain is recommended for newbie hikers. It has sloping route, some of the routes perhaps quite challenging but not too extreme. For newbies, I recommend you to join an open trip with a guide so you don't have to worry about the route.
The beginning route is already tarred with asphalt and the middle route is a rocky road, but quite muddy in some areas. I came on rainy day with so many fogs out there. Quite chill and cold so you need some extra protection such thick gloves and jacket. Although fogs everywhere, it still has quite decent instagrammable spots.
Don't worry for snacks, there are many small stalls that provide food and drink, especially hot ones. You just need to bring money for that and it is really affordable, trust me.
There is also "Ojek" (carrier) if you already feel tired."

"Mount Papandayan in West Java is an active stratovolcano standing at 2,665 meters above sea level. Despite its volcanic nature, it’s a favorite among both beginners and experienced hikers thanks to its relatively accessible trails and breathtaking scenery. The trek takes you through diverse terrain—from lush forests and rocky slopes to vibrant alpine meadows.
One of the volcano’s most iconic features is its geothermal activity. Along the way, you’ll encounter steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pools, and sulfur vents that offer a surreal, otherworldly experience. The air smells of sulfur, the ground hisses with steam, and you’re reminded you’re walking on a living volcano.
At the summit or even from the main crater area, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of vast craters, rolling hills, and the famed Tegal Alun meadow—known for its fields of Edelweiss flowers. The volcano also supports diverse flora and fauna, making it perfect for eco-tourism and nature photography.
For families or beginners, the hike from the basecamp to the camping area only takes around 2 hours, with trails that are well-maintained and straightforward. The campground is well-equipped, with built-in toilets and surrounded by small food stalls. It's common to see families and children enjoying the outdoors here.
Do note: while the hike is friendly for many, proper sun protection and bug repellent are highly recommended as the trail can be sunny and insects are present."
