Reviews Summary

Songgoriti Temple is recognized for its historical significance as the oldest temple in East Java and its unique natural hot springs. Visitors appreciate the serene garden setting and the easy accessibility. However, some find the temple ruins to be minimal and certain areas around the springs to be in need of maintenance.

"I chose to visit this temple in the morning since I saw on Google that it is open 24 hours a day. However, when I arrived about 7 a.m., the temple's door was shut, and there was no sign of a guard.
Even the glass at the entryway has cracked. From the exterior, the temple seems to be in good shape, but the hot spring area around it is empty, with some even abandoned."

Dhiandra Jatu

"The oldest temple in East Java, was built in the 9th century AD by Mpu Supo.
Builded with good architecture, which looks only shoots while, and the body of the temple is still buried in the ground until now.
This temple is very unique because it stands on three different springs. Hot water, cold water and sulfur water.
Easy to reach this location, only 2km from Batu City, located on the side of the road, spacious parking, beautiful, and clean area. Very recomended to visit!"

The Ancient History of Songgoriti

A substantial portion of the temple's body remains buried underground, hinting at a grander past that time has partially reclaimed. This archaeological aspect makes it a fascinating spot for those interested in ancient Indonesian history and religious sites. Reddit

Despite its age and historical importance, the temple is often described as 'ruined.' However, this doesn't diminish its allure for many visitors. The charm lies in imagining the past and appreciating the surviving structures. The site's unique construction, standing on three distinct springs – hot, cold, and sulfur – adds another layer of intrigue to its historical narrative. Reddit+1

These natural thermal waters are believed by some to have therapeutic properties, offering a unique relaxation experience amidst the historical ruins. Reddit+1

While the springs are a highlight, visitor experiences can vary.
