What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Taman Budaya Jawa Tengah is praised for its impressive Javanese architecture, particularly the Pendopo Ageng, and its role in preserving and showcasing traditional arts through regular performances and exhibitions. While many appreciate its cultural significance and suitability for events like weddings, some visitors note issues with comfort in the open-air spaces due to heat and humidity, and occasional cleanliness concerns in facilities.
"Visited once recently. A nice and big building with spacious hall for holding ceremonies. Decorated with the color of Central Java culture that adding to the building character. The parking space looks like a bit limited for any big party or ceremony. The main hall is an open space has no wall on any side. To be honest, although it is an open space building, it was built on a ground that one level lower than its surrounding areas this condition is causing not enough wind to blow. People who are in this hall for few hours may have a lot of sweat.
They should install some wall and ceilling fans to help the air to move or circulate actively and provide more comfort to people attending the ceremony."

"As an outlook ,Taman Budaya Surakarta (TBS) or sometimes called as Taman Budaya Jawa Tengah (TBJT) is a complex of buildings with open space in the surrounding , occupying an area of around 5 hectares and located in Jl Ir Sutami , Jebres , Surakarta . It's called as cultural park because its activities are to appreciate , to preserve , to develop , to perform and do documentary keeping of the existing traditional Javanese arts and culture as well as providing a place for art & cultural events that exist in Surakarta & Central Java . TBS or TBJT is managed by the government of Central Java Province .
The building complex consists of : Pendopo Ageng , Pendopo Alit , Galeri Seni , Teater Arena , Teater Terbuka , Wisma Seni , Ruang Dokumentasi etc.
Pendopo Ageng , the largest building , represents the greatness of Javanese traditional architecture , "joglo" . Indeed , I admire it , beside its beauty it also shows the building strength and firmness . Look at its beautiful building details : main pillars carving and lamps ornament sculpture , all are artistic !
In Pendopo Ageng , wayang kulit performance being held regularly , monthly (in javanese calendar) , every "malem Jum'at kliwon" , similar to that is being performed in Monumen Ibu Tien Jaten , which is performed every "malem Rebo pon" .
Many variety of cultural performance that are held in TBS beside of wayang kulit , e.g. : ketoprak , traditional dance , keroncong etc . TBS also provide exhibitions for instance : fine arts , painting , photography , film etc , and provide arts & culture discussion forum .
Beside those cultural & art activities that are arranged in TBS , - during wedding season - , in Pendopo Ageng is often used as a place for wedding celebration . I was once attending that . Pendopo Ageng has spacious area for wedding celebration , and also has spacious area for parking !
So , try to follow agenda of events that is arranged by TBS and enjoy it !
👍👍👍"
