Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Ulun Danu Beratan Temple for its breathtaking beauty, serene atmosphere, and iconic lake views, making it a highlight for many Bali trips. The well-maintained gardens and the spiritual ambiance are frequently mentioned positives. However, the significant crowds, especially during peak hours, can detract from the tranquility for some.

"I had the chance to visit Ulun Danu Bratan Temple, one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks, and it was truly a beautiful experience. The temple, set against the backdrop of Lake Bratan and surrounded by mountains, creates such a serene and picturesque atmosphere.

The reflection of the temple on the lake, especially in the morning when the air is crisp and mist lingers, feels almost magical. The surrounding gardens are very well-maintained and impressively clean, making the whole area pleasant to explore.

It can get quite busy with visitors, but the peaceful setting of the lake and the cultural significance of the temple still shine through. For anyone visiting Bali, this is definitely a must-see destination that perfectly combines natural beauty, cultural heritage, and a tranquil environment."

"Very nice park and temple up in the mountains at a lake.
We arrived around 10.30 so it did not feel so packed with tourists and we really liked locals would use the temple for their ceremonies and cleansings. It was great to watch them, also when only outside of the temple.
In general we found that it was a relaxing spot. You also have a couple of coffee shops / kiosks there and nice places to sit and rest, so definitely recommended."

"Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a fantastic stop and one of the highlights of the area. The grounds are beautifully kept, with plenty of space to wander and endless opportunities for stunning photos. There is a small coffee and ice cream stand with fair prices, which makes for a nice break during your visit. We were lucky to catch a ceremony while we were there, and it was absolutely beautiful to watch, adding to the cultural experience. There is also a playground for children, though it looks a bit dated and could use some updates. Overall, this is a wonderful place to visit, and I would highly recommend it, especially for families or anyone interested in seeing temples in a peaceful and scenic setting."

Capturing the Perfect Shot: Photography Tips for Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a photographer's dream, offering iconic views that are instantly recognizable. The most sought-after shot is the temple complex seemingly floating on Lake Bratan, with its reflection creating a mirror image on the water's surface. To capture this, aim for early morning hours when the lake is calm and the light is soft, often accompanied by a mystical mist that adds to the atmosphere. Instagram

Beyond the main temple, explore the surrounding gardens for picturesque scenes. Look for the charming swan statues that dot the landscape, and don't miss the unique stone gateway that offers a framed view of the temple. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to make your photos stand out. A wide-angle lens is highly recommended to encompass the grandeur of the temple and its surroundings. Consider using a polarizing filter to enhance the colors and reduce glare on the water, making those reflections pop. Reddit

While the visual appeal is undeniable, remember to be mindful of other visitors and the sanctity of the place. Avoid intrusive photography, especially during ceremonies. Many visitors find the temple to be a highly photogenic location, with endless opportunities for stunning imagery. Reddit

Navigating the Crowds: Strategies for a Peaceful Visit

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is one of Bali's most popular attractions, and it's no secret that it can get crowded, especially during peak hours and on weekends. The "Instagram vs. Reality" sentiment shared online highlights this common experience, where the serene images often contrast with the bustling reality of many visitors. Instagram

The most effective strategy to avoid the throngs of tourists is to arrive as early as possible, ideally right when the temple opens. This allows you to experience the tranquil beauty of the temple and its surroundings with significantly fewer people. Visiting on a weekday, rather than a weekend, can also make a noticeable difference in crowd levels. Instagram

If an early start isn't feasible, try to visit during off-peak hours, which might be after the main morning rush and before the late afternoon tour groups arrive. Even with crowds, the sheer beauty of the location and the cultural significance of the temple can still provide a memorable experience. Remember that many visitors find the temple relaxing even with others around, and the chance to witness local ceremonies adds a unique dimension. Reddit
