What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Aghade Bridge is recognized for its historical significance as the oldest bridge on the River Slaney and its picturesque natural setting. It's cherished by locals for its beauty and as a spot for outdoor activities. However, recent reports highlight concerns about illegal fencing impacting public access and the overall aesthetic of the area.
"Aghade bridge was once a beauty spot and amenity to many locals and tourists especially enjoyed by walkers, swimmers, kayakers, fishermen and nature lovers. It is the oldest bridge on the River Slaney and is a protected structure (23310301318) There is a burden on the lands meaning the river bank is a right of way. It has been a right of way for hundreds of years. The wooden stile entrance at the bridge which has been there for decades conveys it's a presumption of dedication meaning it allows the public access. The illegal and ugly fence was erected over 4 years ago, CCC deemed it illegal, a notice was given to remove it within 4 weeks. The cement wall attached is also an illegal structure, the owner of that got a notice to remove it yet both eye sores still stand. I hope to soon see Aghade Bridge return to its unspoilt beauty. Please, if and when you use this fabulous amenity, don't leave your litter behind. Don't allow a few disrespectful people ruin it for everyone else."

"A beautiful, peaceful spot. However, A great big ugly, spiked fence is now blocking access to this beauty spot. Completely at odds with the beauty beside it. This poorly constructed monstrosity now blocks the public right of way 😢 How sad to block, especially during Covid."

"I live beside the bridge. Very relaxing spot, very picturesque and a very popular spot as a launch site for canoeists"
