What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Rindoon Medieval Town as a hidden gem, praising its stunning lake views, evocative castle ruins, and enchanting forest walks. Many highlight the peaceful atmosphere and lack of crowds, making it a perfect escape. However, some express disappointment over its private ownership and limited accessibility, particularly for those with mobility issues or dogs.
"The Warren Point Loop Walk along Rindoon Castle is one of the best loop hikes in Ireland. It combines amazing lake views with a heritage city from the 13th century (ruins of a castle, church and city wall). It also has magical fairytale forests and not a lot of people. Bring definitely good shows. Not suitable for dogs or too small kids."

"Talk about well-kept secrets....
Along with Clonmines in Wexford, Rindoon is one of the best collections of medieval relics that nobody knows about.
The walk is amazing, the scenery of Lough Ree beyond compare and loads of ruins in a small area. The presence of the walls means that people often assume that there was a town here. There is little evidence for a town existing here ever. What you have is an incredibly well-fortified farm."

"The castle can be reached via a gorgeous walk along the water. This was one of the most beautiful walks I've done in Ireland. Highly recommended. There is also a parking lot close by. The castle itself cannot be entered. The walk is also not accessible via wheelchair or buggy.
Highly recommend!"

This scenic route combines the historical exploration of the ruins with the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, particularly the stunning views over Lough Ree. The walk itself is described as magical and fairytale-like, with enchanting forests complementing the ancient stone structures. It's a place where history and nature intertwine, providing a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
Despite its historical significance and natural beauty, Rindoon's status as privately owned and a working farm presents unique challenges. This ownership means access can be variable, and certain restrictions, like the prohibition of dogs, are in place. Some visitors express frustration over the lack of public access to such a significant heritage site, highlighting a desire for greater public engagement with Ireland's past.

The combination of ancient ruins emerging from lush greenery, with the expansive waters of Lough Ree as a backdrop, creates a truly memorable atmosphere. The trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers due to its natural and sometimes rugged condition, and sturdy walking shoes are a must.
While the walk is a highlight, it's important to remember that Rindoon is a working farm.
