What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking, unspoiled beauty of Pollan Bay, often describing the turquoise waters and expansive sands as magnificent. The dramatic coastal views and the opportunity for long walks, including to Carrickabraghy Castle, are frequently praised. However, many note the strong, persistent winds, which can make visits bracing, and the beach can be stony in parts.
"Nice beach, but very windy. I visited on a gloomy day, looking for good surf but ended up finding myself almost completely isolated from the rest of the world. Worth a drive, but Iβm sure it would be far more worth it on a sunny day."

"Lovely beach! Would highly recommend visiting if youβre going to Donegal."

"Absolutely beautiful unspoilt beach on the shores of the Inishowen Peninsula in North Donegal. Once you pass Carrickabraghey Castle, you are off tarmac Road on a bumpy track, but, what a view when you get to Pollan Strand. Fabulous views of Glashedy Island and Dunaff Head. The water was turquoise on our visit and a local surf school was operating. The great outdoors at its best. Beach can be stony. Really recommended."

Look for the interplay of light and shadow on the sand dunes, the textures of the stony beach, and the powerful waves. The silhouette of Carrickabraghy Castle against the sky is also a striking subject.
Use a faster shutter speed to freeze the motion of the waves, or a slower shutter speed with a tripod to create a silky smooth water effect. Be mindful of the spray and protect your gear.
