Killiney Hill gave us more than we expected. We had set out looking for nothing more than a walk and a bit of space to move as a family, but the day unfolded slowly and beautifully.
Not far from the base of the trail, we spotted a handwritten sign for ice cream and coffee. One of those small, perfect surprises when you're out with kids. We stopped, got a morning ice cream and coffee, sat for a while, and let the day slow down before we’d even begun walking.
From there, we made our way toward the tree-lined hill. The path opened gradually, with the light shifting as we climbed. At the top, the views widened all at once: the sea, the sky, the city off in the distance. At the apex stood the obelisk. We sat on the rocks there for a long time, just taking it all in.
My older son climbed the pyramid-like structure nearby - confident, happy, determined.
The descent took us through what felt like an enchanted forest. Quiet, cool, damp in the best way. Moss covered the trees and low stone walls lined the path. Everything smelled green. We didn’t rush.
At the end of the trail, we reached the park. It’s simple, natural, and beautifully done. Our kids had the freedom to explore and play, and we weren’t just watching. We were part of it. Sitting. Laughing. Resetting. 🧡
