If you want one of the best views in Kilkenny without the crowds, this is it. St. Canice’s Cathedral dates back to the 1200s, and you can climb the round tower next to it for sweeping views over the city and surrounding countryside. The climb is steep and narrow, but that’s part of the charm, and why so many travelers skip it. What to know before you go: 🌀 Tight climb to the top (not ideal if you’...

Reviews Summary

Kilkenny is widely praised for its stunning medieval architecture, particularly Kilkenny Castle and St. Canice's Cathedral. Visitors love the vibrant atmosphere, the opportunity to shop for authentic Irish crafts at the Design Centre, and the delicious food offerings. However, some recent reviews suggest a decline in food quality at certain establishments, with rising prices not always matched by consistent quality.

"When I'm in Dublin, I inevitably head to Kilkenny Design Centre. It's definitely touristy, a tourist attraction, but it has a good selection of authentic Irish products from Beleek china to Waterford crystal to woolen items from Donegal and elsewhere. It's a nice place to buy a few gifts to bring home from a trip, a one-stop shopping destination. And prices are not particularly bad, and service is good."

William Lindsey

"This is just in relation to the cafe upstairs, shop below is lovely. Not much value for a 5 item Irish breakfast, given that it’s self service and doesn’t include coffee/tea. By the time we had gotten the food and made our own machine coffee and waited at the till.. the food was no longer warm. Staff pleasant"

Njall Dyfgoll

"Kilkenny was my place to go when in Dublin for work but not anymore. I used to be delighted with their quality and variety. Everything fresh and top notch but not anymore. I had a scone which was a dry stone with what looked like jelly marmalade, my husband a cake which was dry too. It's just not fresh and the ingredients are poor. I had a chowder which at this point I confirm being the worst I ever had. It's more a tinned soup you by at Tesco's. My husband had the meat with the mash potatoes and veggies. Dreadful. The meat was tasteless and vegetables soggy. Prices have gone up too which would not be a problem if they kept quality. Sad that everything comes to an end. Buy Kilkenny, see you never again"
