What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bernard McGlinchey Park is a beautiful and well-maintained space, praised for its renovated play area and outdoor gym. Visitors appreciate the open spaces and peaceful herb garden, though some note the limited tea room hours and lack of covered areas for rain. It's a great spot for families and those seeking a quiet escape, but not ideal for dog owners.
"Beautiful park to visit. These days allowed timing is 9am to 9:30 pm for summers. Dogs are not allowed. Bicycles are not allowed. You can see gym equipment over there. Kids rides are closed right now. Some of the maintenance work is in progress."
Babita Sharma
"A great park to take the kids, exercise, walk or have a picnic. The only reasons for 4 stars are the lack of decet toilets, a coffee shop that only opens Mon-Fri business hours (so weekends, useless) and no place to escape a quick rain shower, so typical of this region. A few covered spaces, even if without walls and such for mischief would greatly help especially during rainy months.
The open spaces are well kept, the toys for kids and outdoor gym for adults are well maintained and it is overall very well taken care of."

"Beautiful park and big enough with all amenities. They renovated the kids play area and open now.I love it for my kid as some playtime is more crucial and the park gives a beautiful freshness too.."

Exploring the Park's Amenities
Beyond recreation, the park also boasts a peaceful herb garden, offering a tranquil escape for quiet contemplation. While the park provides toilet facilities and a car park, it's worth noting that the on-site tea room has limited hours, primarily serving visitors during weekday business hours, making it less convenient for weekend outings.
Visitors should be aware of specific park rules, including the prohibition of dogs and bicycles within the park grounds. These regulations help maintain the park's cleanliness and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
Planning Your Visit: Practicalities
While the park is well-maintained, some visitors have noted a lack of extensive covered areas, which can be a consideration given the region's typical weather. Bringing an umbrella or rain gear is advisable, especially during the wetter months. The tea room, while a nice addition, has limited hours and is not a reliable option for weekend refreshments, so packing your own snacks and drinks is a good idea.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the park is considered a well-hidden gem by many, offering a great open space for kids to play and a peaceful environment for relaxation. Its proximity to Letterkenny hospital and accessibility from the main street also make it a convenient option for many visitors.
