The expansive grounds, luxurious accommodations, and excellent dining options are frequently highlighted as major draws. "We had a wonderful stay at Carton House from start to finish. Everything from check-in to check-out was fantastic, and all the staff were incredibly friendly. The estate itself is beautiful with a rich history, and we were lucky to join the tour. It was such a pleasure to have Brian guide us — he explained each room in the old manor with great passion and helped us learn so much about the Fitzgerald family. He even went above and beyond by printing out the stories for us, which we truly appreciated. We enjoyed the walk around the estate grounds as well.
Dinner at the hotel was lovely too, and the staff attending to us were warm and welcoming.
Overall, a memorable stay — highly recommended!"

"I hate to leave a bad review, but people need to be warned that this is NOT a 5-star hotel. You will be greatly disappointed if you are expecting that level of service. Firstly, in order to get to the actual hotel/reception from the property entrance, it is a 30 minute walk. I emailed ahead of time to see if we could arrange transportation and they never responded. Despite having a fleet of DOZENS of golf carts, we had to call a taxi, and pay 11 euro just to go up the road. Even if we did walk, it is not a walkable path, we would have been lugging suitcases in the middle of a narrow road. When we got out of the car, there was no greeting nor offer to help with our bags, all of which would be expected at a 5-star hotel.
Considering there isn't much to do outside the hotel, we assumed their would be some nice onsite activities. There is a spa, but they made no mention of it upon check-in, and despite a huge poster advertising a bunch of activities, when we asked the answer was "uhh... well what do you wanna do?" and when I asked to elaborate on the options they essentially said there were none because its winter.
All there was to do was to sit in our room, in which the television only had basic cable & youtube (or screen mirroring to a non-apple device). The room was mediocre -- a hairdryer with an extension piece that didnt fit and nowhere to plug it in near the mirror, a thermostat that is impossible to figure out and has a bright green light that illuminates the entire room at night (we had to put a sock over it to fall asleep), our mugs were dirty and a cigarette butt was left on the patio. We also stabbed our toes with a nail sticking out of the floor....
Breakfast was not good and made us feel sick. It also only runs from 8am - 10:30am which feels a bit short.
The food at the Carriage House in general was not good - no flavor and horribly overpriced.
Finally, we were meant to get some perks because we booked through our credit card rewards. Our room upgrade was just moving us to a room with a patio (it's winter time...) and there was no welcome amenity - we had to call reception 3 times and it arrived after 1.5 hours.
If this was not a 5-star hotel, I would be perfectly fine with the stay. However, nothing about this hotel was above and beyond. We came here for a little stress-relieving staycation but it actually stressed us out even more because the amount of money we wasted on a mediocre hotel. :("

"Stayed in the hotel for my 40th birthday. This was our second stay at the hotel, but first time since Fairmont took over.
Welcome was lovely, but we weren't told about the tour of the house, only figured it out when we were returning from the breakfast that they doing such a thing for guests.
So they done up the lobby and the bar area, which is lovely, they started using 2 georgeus rooms in the big house of which one is used for afternoon tea, while the other is a fine dining restaurant.
Unfortunately fine dining restaurant was closed, instead they had restaurant in the former servants room open, which was bit disappointing.
I went to SPA and could say there was no upgrades made there, loungers were rusty as well as some of the pillars and in general area looked dated and didn't resemble 5* resort SPA ambience.
Although there was only handful of guests, service was attentive but quality of drinks was shocking.Ordered 3 different beers of very small range of beers thay were offering, all 3 came flat. When I complained they brought another pint but was equally as bad.Was told that the one I returned will be taken out from my bill ,but on signing I noticed it was still there.
When I complained they took it off the bill but didn't like the attitude of the bartender.
Dinner in the carriage house was a disaster.Simple bar food couldn't be cooked right. My wife got stomach discomfort which lasted for two day after eating their burger.Fish and chips was very bad too.
There is built in mandatory service charge at 10% in every bill.
Breakfast was served in the carriage house and it was of good quality, although they didn't have natural squeezed orange and other things you would expect.classical music way too loud at the breakfast time.
There was no upgrades made in the rooms since our last stay, and first impressions when you walk into hotel with nice smells coming from defuzers soon turned into disappointment when you walk up to smelly corridors with stale air.
All in all hotel had no atmosphere, and even being such a beautiful property being consistently let down with food and drink made sour taste in my mouth.
We won't be back, neither recommending this hotel."
