What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate Seán Heuston Bridge as a modern pedestrian crossing with pleasant views of the River Liffey and Dublin's skyline. Its accessibility and free access are definite pluses. However, some travelers note its history of being stuck closed and find the walk to other stations like Connolly to be quite long and less scenic than anticipated.

"Small bridge, nothing extra special about it so that you should go take a look, but going from the train station, it makes a fine introduction to the city."

Kristýna Vacardová

""What I do is the opposite of building walls. I build bridges. A bridge is something that connects instead of separating." -Santiago Calatrava (1951- )

Crossing the River Liffey, the Seán Heuston bridge stands between Heuston Station and Phoenix Park. It was originally built in 1828 and today is used for pedestrians and Luas traffic - cars and trucks are shifted to the downstream Frank Sherman Bridge.

When it was built, it was the King's bridge but was renamed in 1941 to honor the Irish revolutionary figure Seán Heuston.

From here, a great view of the river and as you pass from time to time, you can see that the Liffey is truly tidal. At one point in the day, you can see the tossed bicycles and shopping trolleys on the riverbed. And later, the river is quite full and all of that muck is hidden."

Bruce InCharlotte

"Kingsbridge, now called Sean Heuston Bridge but many older people still use the old name. The crowns were removed after the renaming. Today it is a bridge for trams and pedestrians only"

Fergal Jennings
