What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Giv'at Yonah is praised for its stunning panoramic views of the Ashdod coastline and port, especially during sunset, and its historical significance as a potential burial site of Prophet Jonah. However, visitors frequently note issues with litter and a lack of adequate lighting after dark, which can detract from the experience.
"Disgusting people have brought this place to shame. Once a beautiful, historic and a romantic site, now is just a dirty and abandoned place full of trash. Plastic trash, paper trash, you name it. There's everything there. Certainly, you can't control everyone, and despite there being a fair amount of trash cans, all the trash is still everywhere, including around the gazebo....
If you'll look up, however, with all the trash being at the bottom of your field of view, it just might be a beautiful sight."

"nice observation, specialy in sunset time. this is the highest place in the city. there is a retaurant (KIRA) with observation to the beach ,"

"Beautiful views and tranquil benches. Good place to have rest during twilight hours of the day. However, if you decide to use those benches closer to noon (especially in summer) you'll discover that the organizers managed to install most of the benches under direct sunlight and not in the shadows of trees. More to that, coming to the park in the evening will endanger you, because this park is completely devoid of any night lighting. If you are into that kind of extreme adventurizing come visit this park at noon or at night. Otherwise stick to twilight."

The History and Significance of Giv'at Yonah
Beyond its religious connotations, the hill offers a unique vantage point over the ancient and modern aspects of Ashdod. Visitors can observe the bustling port, a key economic hub, alongside the historical landscape. This blend of the sacred, historical, and contemporary makes Giv'at Yonah a multifaceted destination.
While the site holds deep meaning for many, it's also a place where the community gathers for leisure. However, recent visitor feedback highlights concerns about litter, which detracts from its historical and natural appeal. Efforts to maintain its cleanliness are crucial to preserving its significance for future generations.
Experiencing the Views and Atmosphere
Many visitors find the atmosphere particularly tranquil during twilight hours. The soft light of dawn or dusk creates a romantic and peaceful ambiance, perfect for reflection or a quiet moment. The presence of benches scattered around the hill allows visitors to sit and soak in the scenery.
However, it's important to note that the park's infrastructure has some limitations. Benches can be exposed to direct sunlight during the day, making midday visits uncomfortable in summer. Furthermore, the lack of night lighting means evening visits require caution and preparedness.
