What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Church of the Annunziata for its enchanting seaside location and beautiful stained glass. Its ancient origins and picturesque setting by the port of Acciaroli are frequently highlighted as a peaceful and scenic spot to visit.
"The exact date of construction of the Church of the Santissima Annunziata is unknown, but it is known to be very ancient and was not originally built as a church but rather as a simple chapel. The first mention of a church in Acciaroli is listed in Book 21 of the Cava Diplomatic Codex, which states: ecclesiam sancte marie de Azzarulo, presumably from 1187, when Azzarulo was founded, "then in the Azzaroli years, Acciarulo," until 1795, when Acciaroli became the Municipality of Pollica (SA).
The church overlooks the port named after Angelo Vassallo, the former mayor of Pollica, who was shot dead on September 5, 2010, by an as-yet unknown assailant. The massacre, which involved numerous people, ended at the site where the fisherman mayor was killed, toward the main town of Pollica."

"Acciaroli is a beautiful village in Cilento, known as a fishing village (in the 1950s) and popular especially in the summer for its clear waters. Its historic center, its shops, its restaurants, its fine cuisine, and its splendid sea welcome visitors and tourists who choose to spend their time here. Next to the port is the Norman Tower, built in 1233 by Frederick II to defend the coast from pirates. The Church of the Annunziata, with its bell tower, is next door. At the port, you can stroll, eat in its many restaurants, drink, or simply admire the sea."
