Reviews Summary

Reviews for dining in the Orti District are generally positive, highlighting friendly service and authentic Tuscan flavors. While one recent review noted issues with undercooked pasta and sandy seafood, most visitors praise the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal.

"We were unlucky this time, and I'm sorry because we'd been to "Ortincontra" last year in April and had a good time overall.
This time, there were two of us. We ordered a Piedmontese appetizer (two quenelles of Russian salad, three slices of salami, a goat's cheese with candied onion, a bite of pea omelette, and a slice of bell pepper with "bagna cauda"), a plate of spaghetti alla chitarra, and another of scialatielli with clams.
After the appetizers, we waited in vain for the first courses. After asking for information and waiting some more, a waiter—not the person who took the orders—came to apologize, taking responsibility for the delay. After a few minutes, our dishes arrived. The scialatielli were definitely undercooked, and the clams contained more sand than is acceptable for a seafood dish; we politely pointed this out to the wait staff when asked.
The spaghetti alla chitarra was unusually short, but above all, decidedly spicy. I don't know if someone less accustomed to it (I've been to India for work several times, and this dish held up to the spicy food there) would have been able to consume that dish. We ordered a dessert, perhaps to give them a chance to offer even just one as an apology, but that wasn't the case. There was no request on our part, nor any complaint, since the staff was aware of what had happened.
Too bad."

The Charm of Oltrarno and the Orti District

The Orti District is nestled within Florence's Oltrarno, the 'other side of the Arno' river. This area is historically known for its artisan workshops and a more laid-back, authentic Florentine atmosphere compared to the bustling Duomo area. It’s a place where traditional crafts are still very much alive, offering visitors a chance to see skilled artisans at work in their studios. Think leatherworkers, ceramicists, and jewelers, many of whom have been practicing their trades for generations. TikTok

Exploring the Orti District means wandering through narrow, winding streets, discovering hidden piazzas, and stumbling upon charming trattorias that serve up genuine Tuscan fare. Unlike the grand monuments, the appeal here is in the everyday life and the quiet beauty of Florentine living. It’s a district that invites you to slow down, observe, and soak in the local culture. Reddit

Key to the Orti District's appeal are its green spaces, such as Gli Orti del Parnaso. These gardens offer a tranquil respite from the city's energy, providing beautiful spots for a quiet moment or a picnic. They are often less crowded than the more famous Boboli Gardens, offering a more intimate connection with nature within the city. TikTok
