What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Basilica's majestic Roman Gothic architecture and its spiritual atmosphere, particularly the veneration of Saint Thérèse's relics. The sea views are also a highlight. However, some find the large, asphalted square less aesthetically pleasing and note that acoustics can be distracting.
"Ok,ok,ok,ok,ok,ok"
Rodolfo Varano
"Modern sanctuary (1920s) in Roman Gothic style. The spans are beautiful and the sensation of leap towards the sky is typical of Gothic cathedrals. The internal view is beautiful. There is a beautiful walk above the side spans, unfortunately not accessible except with private guides and contact with the custodians: in any case not easy. To be visited on days when there is no one, or few people and in any case avoid groups of tourists who often arrive en masse by bus.
The view of the sanctuary from the outside is beautiful. The square is huge and asphalted which takes away much of its beauty (especially with buses and cars). The view towards the sea is ruined by wild buildings, without a minimum of criteria even in the colors; which only show the horizon of the sea; it would have been magnificent with many fewer buildings."
IVANO SPADONI
"The complex of buildings that includes the Church of Santa Teresa di Bambin Gesù is a 20th-century building. More specifically, it was built in the 1920s. It is a Catholic place of worship dedicated to Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus and is located in the city of Anzio."

Deep Dives
In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Architectural Vision
While the interior is designed for spiritual contemplation, the exterior also holds significant features. The prominent 40-meter bell tower is not just an architectural element but also a memorial, dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Anzio in 1944. This adds a layer of historical resonance to the site, connecting faith with remembrance. The vast, asphalted square surrounding the Basilica, though functional for large gatherings, has been noted by some visitors as detracting slightly from the natural beauty of the landscape.
Pilgrimage and Devotion
Visitors often describe the experience as deeply spiritual and moving. The sheer number of faithful who come to venerate the saint underscores her enduring impact on Catholic life. While the Basilica itself is a modern construction, its purpose as a sanctuary for devotion is ancient. The atmosphere within is generally described as majestic and welcoming, fostering a sense of peace and connection for those who visit with a prayerful heart.
