"A hidden gem.
Benedictine church built in the 13th century together with the monastery, now used as a school. Divided into three naves. In the presbytery we find the main altar with: Vocation of SS. Peter, Andrew, James and John by Giorgio Vasari. Above the famous fake dome by Andrea Pozzo, artist and Jesuit father, with its optical illusion (1702), because it is flat, the surprise is if you stand towards the right column and observing the dome, you move to the left, you see that the dome rotates on itself and tilts. His works in perspective are to be admired. Then we find the
Grand Crucifix on wood by Segna di Bonaventura, made around 1319. Wooden crucifix by Baccio da Montelupo on the right wall of the church, a valuable work from 1504. The altarpiece Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin by Giorgio Vasari, also known as the Albergotti Altarpiece 1566. Madonna with Child and SS. Mauro, Lucia and Luigi IX by Bernardino Santi 17th century
Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine by Teofilo Torri in the right transept of the church 1605. San Lorenzo in the counterfaçade, a masterpiece frescoed by Bartolomeo della Gatta in 1476."

Visitors are often amazed by the dynamic nature of the illusion. As you move from one side to another, the dome appears to subtly rotate and tilt, a testament to Pozzo's profound understanding of optics and artistic technique.
