Reviews Summary

Spiaggia del Principe is lauded for its exceptionally beautiful, crystal-clear blue waters and exotic feel, often described as a paradise. However, visitors frequently note the significant lack of facilities, including toilets and shade, and the potential for overcrowding, which can detract from the experience. Parking costs and rental prices for amenities are also points of concern for some. Reddit+1

"🌊 Beach Review: A Wannabe Paradise Turned Nightmare

If you’re looking for a relaxing day by the sea, this beach is the last place you should consider. Marketed as a rising star among coastal destinations, it turns out to be a complete disaster.

• 🚫 No Facilities: There are no toilets, no bar, no terrace—absolutely nothing to support even the most basic human needs. Upon arrival, we were bluntly told that “nature is your bathroom,” meaning you’re expected to relieve yourself in the nearby forest. Charming, right?
• 💨 Unbearable Smell: The only thing that truly fills the air is the stench of sewage. Forget the salty breeze or the scent of sunscreen—this place reeks of neglect and poor infrastructure.
• 🏖️ False Advertising: The beach may have sand and water, but that’s where the positives end. It’s a textbook example of how not to run a tourist spot. No shade, no refreshments, no hygiene, no respect for visitors.

⚠️ Verdict: Avoid at all costs. This beach is not just underwhelming—it’s borderline insulting. A fiasco dressed up as a destination. Save your time, your money, and your dignity. There are better places to be—like literally anywhere else."

"We had a fantastic time at this beach. Probably one of the best beaches in Sardegna. I’ve never seen water this blue. Parking is ~12 euros for the day. We rented sunbeams and an umbrella. It is expensive at 45 euro for the day (traveling with family and kids). There is no shade so you either pay or bring your stuff. In any case, the beach and the overall experience is so unique that in someway it becomes priceless"

Juan Fernandez

"Really beautiful, extraordinary beach in Gallura region of Sardinia!
Be careful with parking though! The official parking fills up quickly and then cars stop at the side of the main road that turns out to be forbidden (€29 fine) … but for us it worth it 😉"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Prince's Name and Origin

Spiaggia del Principe, translating to 'Prince's Beach,' owes its name to Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. He was instrumental in the development and popularization of the Costa Smeralda as a luxury tourist destination in the 1960s. Instagram However, the beach's original name is Poltu di li Coghji, reflecting its local Sardinian heritage. This dual naming highlights both its historical roots and its modern association with glamour and exclusivity. Instagram

This connection to royalty and luxury has undoubtedly contributed to its fame. Visitors often come seeking a taste of the glamorous lifestyle associated with the Costa Smeralda, drawn by the allure of its famous namesake. The beach's stunning natural beauty, combined with its storied past, creates a unique appeal for tourists. Instagram

Navigating the Costa Smeralda Beaches

Spiaggia del Principe is just one of several breathtaking beaches along the legendary Costa Smeralda. Other notable spots include Capriccioli, known for its crystal-clear waters perfect for relaxation, and Grande Pevero and Piccolo Pevero, celebrated for their unparalleled beauty and hidden coves. Instagram

Exploring these beaches offers a diverse range of experiences, from secluded coves to more expansive stretches of sand. Expectations vs. Reality

While often depicted as a pristine paradise, some visitors have experienced a disconnect between expectations and reality. Factors like strong winds, choppy waters, and the presence of seaweed can sometimes detract from the idyllic image. Instagram It's important to remember that natural environments can be unpredictable, and weather conditions can significantly impact the beach experience. Instagram

Furthermore, the lack of facilities, including toilets and shade, can be a significant drawback for some. Reviews have pointed out the absence of basic amenities, leading to a less comfortable experience than anticipated. Reddit While the water color is consistently praised, the overall infrastructure and potential for crowds are aspects to consider when planning your visit. InstagramReddit
