"If you like historic buildings, this fits the bill. The cathedral and two other buildings with a library from the 1800βs, jail and other."
John Iazzetti
"Medieval cathedral, now we see the result of XIII century reconstruction. Inside there are a lot of frescoes of different styles on the walls and columns. But the most beautiful frescoes are in presbytery, they are drawn by local Renaissance star Andrea de Litio. Highly recommended"
sibeaster
"The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta was built in the 13th century on earlier Roman baths. You can see parts of its history through a glass floor
The rich history is well described on the site of the city of Atri.
The cathedral has 4 large entrances and when I stepped in I was overwhelmed by the enormous space filled with light. The frescoes by Andrea de Litio (1420 β 1495) are a good example of new Italian Renaissance art of painting wrestling away from the Gothic style. It shows very lively pictures of scenes from the new testament. Amazing and full of details."
