What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely magnificent 360-degree views from the summit of Becco di Filadonna, calling the challenging hike entirely worth the effort. The unique Vigolana Bivouac and the well-maintained trails are also frequently praised. However, some find the ascent very strenuous and advise thorough preparation.
"A fantastic, challenging trail, but the 3-hour hike is worth it when you reach the top.
Starting point: Sindech
Total time: 3 hours 20 minutes (as indicated)
Actual climbing time: 2 hours 50 minutes
Trail number: 442
Once you reach the Sindech restaurant (approximately 1,080 m), you can park your car a little further on, on the right. There are free parking spaces.
To begin the trail, follow the signs for the Casarota Refuge. The trail then begins an uphill climb, and after just two minutes, you'll find a sign for Becco di Filadonna.
Continuing along the trail, you'll reach the aforementioned refuge (about 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes), and I recommend taking a break. Perhaps even drink, because as you continue toward the summit, the forest will no longer protect you from the sun.
Once you reach this point, continue along trail 442.
Once you reach the top, all your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent view!
Alternative routes:
- from Folgaria on trail 451
- from Passo del Sommo on trail 451.
These two alternative routes have the same number but start from different points. According to information collected by the SAT, the journey from Passo del Sommo to Becco di Filadonna takes 2 hours and 45 minutes.
I highly recommend this route (photos attached as proof!)"

"Becco di Filadonna, or Vigolana, is a mountain whose summit reaches 2,150 meters above sea level. Being an isolated massif, it offers a 360-degree view, spanning the Brenta and Lagorai mountain ranges, the Cimbrian plateaus, the cities of Trento and Pergine, the Adige Valley, the Monte Baldo area, and the Valsugana valley. It also affords views of Lake Caldonazzo below, extending almost entirely across its entire length. The ascent is very strenuous and is not recommended for those without adequate training. An hour's walk from the summit is a bivouac clinging to the rock."

"A beautiful mountain especially if seen from the Lavarone plateau where, in my opinion, its most classic and beautiful image can be seen. All the access paths require a certain amount of effort in the climb given that wherever you start from, at least 1000m of altitude difference must be foreseen. The fastest climb is starting from Fricca, a little longer from Frisanchi and the Folgaria side. Even more challenging from the Val d'Adige or Vigolo Vattaro side. The effort, however, is compensated by the spectacle that the summit offers, together with the splendid views that can be enjoyed, from the Brenta Dolomites to the Asiago plateau, the Adriatic sea, the Pasubio, the Val d'Adige, the Pale di San Martino and the Lagorai as well as the Folgaria and Lavarone plateaus and the lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo."

The Ascent: Trails and Challenges
Alternative routes exist, such as from Folgaria or Passo del Sommo, also utilizing trail 451. These routes offer different perspectives but generally involve a similar amount of altitude gain. Regardless of the chosen path, hikers should be prepared for a strenuous climb that can take several hours. The effort is consistently rewarded with increasingly spectacular views as you gain elevation.
Key considerations for the ascent include wearing sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support, carrying ample water and snacks, and being aware of the weather. The sun can be intense once you leave the tree line, so sun protection is vital. The trail is well-marked, but it's always wise to have a map or GPS device.
Summit Vistas and the Vigolana Bivouac
Adding to the dramatic landscape is the Vigolana Bivouac, a small shelter perched precariously near the summit. This bivouac is a unique feature of the mountain, offering a sense of adventure and a dramatic backdrop for photos. It serves as a testament to the rugged beauty of the area and provides a basic refuge for those who might stay overnight.
Photographers will find endless opportunities here. The vastness of the landscape, the unique rock formations, and the summit cross create a truly epic setting. Early morning or late afternoon light can enhance the dramatic effect of the mountain scenery.
Seasonal Beauty and Trail Conditions
In late spring and early autumn, the mountain offers a different kind of beauty. The foliage can turn vibrant colors, and the crowds are typically thinner, providing a more serene hiking experience. However, weather can be more unpredictable during these shoulder seasons, with potential for rain or early snow at higher elevations.
Winter presents a significant challenge. The trails can be covered in snow and ice, making them treacherous and often impassable without specialized winter hiking gear and experience. While the snow-capped peaks offer a stunning visual, it's crucial to assess conditions carefully and only attempt the hike if you are well-prepared for winter mountain conditions.
