Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the San Michele Arcangelo Church for its beautiful Romanesque architecture and significant artistic elements, particularly the 17th-century frescoes and the striking crypt. Its central location in Bevagna's Piazza Silvestri adds to its charm. However, some visitors note that the church can be closed unexpectedly, making it important to verify opening hours beforehand.

"This is a church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, which She herself asks to be visited with particular attention and with a deep feeling of artistic and religious participation.
Of Romanesque origin, given its construction began in the 12th century by the architects Binello and Rodolfo, already active in San Silvestro.
The current architectural arrangement allows a look both outside and inside with deep admiration for the lines characterized by a classical concept of tripartite division of the naves divided into columns, inside and of horizontality, as for the façade.
The fresco decorations by Camassei, active in the 17th century, and a beautiful 15th century crucifix, embellish Saint Michael the Archangel with a touching form of dramatic expressiveness.
A beautiful 17th century statue depicting Saint Vincent, makes us understand how religious devotion, here in Bevagna, is held in the highest regard.
The baptismal font dating back to the 17th century is the place where the first of the Christian sacraments is officiated here in Bevagna.
The beautiful raised presbytery contrasts with a splendid underground crypt with low columns and a transept."

Michele Soldovieri

"It is a beautiful Romanesque church built in the 12th century opposite the church (which we might call its "twin") of San Silvestro.
I like it very much because, despite having undergone some modifications over the centuries, which have somewhat altered its original appearance, particularly the upper part of the bell tower and the rose window, which was originally smaller and lower, it has retained its original Romanesque character.
The façade is in travertine, with three portals at the bottom. The central one is larger and features interesting decorations.
The interior is simple, with three naves divided by columns, and the crypt is particularly impressive.
Located in the beautiful Piazza Silvestri, in the heart of Bevagna, it contributes to making it a truly fascinating place."

Giuseppe Marzulli

"A beautiful Romanesque church, built in 1070 by the masters Binello and
Rodolfo. In 1741, it was modified according to Baroque standards and only restored in 1951, removing the stucco and returning it to its original style. Of the Baroque period, only the side chapel remains. The crypt below is also very beautiful. It is truly worth a careful visit."
