Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Borgo San Dalmazzo Deportation Memorial to be a deeply moving and important site for remembering WWII history. The authentic wagons and inscribed names create a powerful, tangible connection to the past. While some visitors have encountered construction that limited access, the memorial's historical and symbolic value is consistently praised as essential for remembrance and reflection.

"An important and touching representation of the deportation during the Second World War... three wagons, many names on the ground, some surnames written in large letters... very beautiful... one must never forget this dramatic piece of history."

DOCTORBAY !!!

"I was a little disappointed with the visit to the memorial. Unfortunately, they were undergoing construction, so it wasn't possible to get close to the carriages or enter the main area. You can still see them from the outside, but the overall experience feels rather limited and a bit "miserable." The exterior is well-maintained, and the site has great historical and symbolic value, but it would be nice to be able to visit it fully, without the barriers of the construction site."

Sonia Bonvini

"These are "living" wagons, carriages that left loaded not so much because of a thousand sadistic politicians or four scoundrels in uniform, but because of relatives, neighbors and strangers who turned the other way, belittled, offended and ridiculed.
The images speak for themselves. And they cry loudly, they moan and screech like those wheels when they brake.
The indifference and implacable desire to discriminate that we have seen first-hand in the last three years demonstrate that alongside these wagons, perhaps, real people would be needed to shout out every day the need not to lower our guard in the face of those who, from above, shape reality with words and attitudes in order to inhibit any right reaction from family and friends in defense of those who, with their backs straight, oppose unjustified restrictions on freedom.
In 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 there have been and are people (but it is understandable, let's be clear, because school, politics and the family itself very often tend to make us radicalize the thought of dictatorship linked to a single symbology) who struggle to observe (still having eyes that are generally subservient to the dominant thought) how much institutional representatives, television cachet virologists employed, law enforcement agencies, journalists and showgirls are been able to combine to condition and annihilate.
We have experienced measures that are seriously detrimental to human dignity, and some of them are still standing today or simply (we could say) suspended.
A handful of scoundrels, with the complicity of those who have been silent, whether conscious and complicit or not, or still unaware of the situation, have taken away from Italians (without having any right and in the name of a pandemic which has proven to be surgically instrumental to a malevolent management of power, as had been seen before just eighty years ago) the possibility of keeping their lives in their own hands.
This place (alas), like the others of equal significance scattered here and there throughout the Bel Paese, seems not to have served much purpose.
I would like to thank all those (some certainly deceased) who worked to create this "custody", but history (which really matters here) has not taught us; it happened again.
I still recommend visiting the Memorial, because it is worth it, and I suggest doing so by reflecting on the fact that the ways of submission are not exactly replicated after ten years or a century; they know how to be new."
