Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Boscoreale Antiquarium for its unique focus on the environment and daily Roman life, offering a peaceful alternative to the crowded main sites. The Villa Regina is highlighted as a beautiful and well-preserved example of a Roman farm. However, some reviews mention that exhibits can be dismantled or temporarily unavailable, and information on current opening status could be more up-to-date.

"The museum here focuses on the environment and natural history of the Roman sites, and it was the most interesting museum we visited on our trip for that reason. The exhibits focus on the animals of Pompeii, including some casts, and also on how Romans interacted with the natural landscape (through art, farming, vineyards, etc). Upstairs there's also a little seating area with a free book on Pompeii you can take home with you (available in various languages). Unlike the main Pompeii site, this place is very quiet, and we had the villa ruins to ourself."

Laurie Raye

"The little museum here was indeed worth visiting and we saw it in 2019. However, when we revisited the Museum last year (July 2023), the exhibits has been dismantled and only a small room was open which had a very interesting (but possibly only temporary) display of artefacts from a recent excavation at a 9th century BC village called Longola. The building seemed to be operating largely as an administrative centre. The Villa Regina next to the museum was open (it had been closed on our last visit in 2019) and is really wonderful - but be warned that you may not find the museum open - or at least not with the rooms described in most of these reviews. I think that the whole area is undergoing major changes in the way it is presenting artefacts with the magnificent new Antiquarium of Pompeii and the fabulous newly opened wings at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples now offering some major new collections to the public. We love this Villa Regina site however, the staff are dedicated and very lovely - but it would be helpful if they could bring their website and Google up to date on what to expect at the museum. You have a lot of people who really care about what you are doing - please keep us informed! Thankyou"

"I have visited in 2015 en 2025. It is really worth a visit. Away from the crowds in Pompei. The collection is now a bit bigger then in 2015. Lovely staff. It is nicely done and enough information is available in English. The Roman villa/farm is very interesting. Maybe they can make small signs in the rooms that say what it was used for.

There is a toilet and also a drinks and snack machine, very reasonably priced. There are a few parking spots (enough since it is not busy) and also spots available outside of the premises."
