"The Church of San Giorgio ⛪️ is undoubtedly one of the most important places of worship 🙏🏻 in Campobasso. The bell tower, whose foundation dates back to between the 11th and 12th centuries, along with that of San Bartolomeo below and Santa Maria Maggiore above, defines the profile of the Monforte hill. The simple Romanesque façade, facing the medieval village, features a small splayed rose window and an architraved portal. The portal is preceded by four steps, framed by two small pilasters and surmounted by a lunette defined by a bas-relief frame decorated with leaves, tendrils, and grape bunches intertwined with flowers, enclosing the image of the crucified lamb at its center. Inside, you can visit the chapel of San Gregorio, built in the 14th century by order of Nicola Ferrauto, a fur trader, and decorated with frescoes depicting the Doctors of the Church, the Evangelists, and the stories of Genesis. Our visit took place on a gray ☁️ in late January, as part of a stay in Molise. Arriving around midday 🕛, we first continued our walk 🚶🏻🚶🏻‍♀️ to the castle 🏰 and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte ⛪️, then returning to the Church of San Giorgio to visit it inside. Although we didn't stay long, we were able to appreciate a couple of statues of the Saint in the act of killing the dragon 🐉. One, the smaller one, is located on the left next to the nativity scene, while the larger one, equipped with wooden supports to carry it during religious processions, has been placed on the right just after the entrance. A plaque affixed to the wall bears the following heading:

"In the year of our Lord 2012, on April 11, the Holy Father Benedict XVI blessed the new bell of St. George in St. Peter's Square - Vatican City,

a gift from the couple Giovanni Di Nardo and Rosaria De Socio, in the presence of the parish priest Don Luigi Di Nardo and numerous parishioners.

Campobasso, April 23, 2012, Feast of St. George the Martyr, Patron Saint of the City."

When visiting Campobasso, you can certainly start from here. RECOMMENDED stop 👍🏻."
