It was built in 1463 and renovated in the 18th century. The Monforte coat of arms is still visible at the top left. Campobasso was a fortified citadel with six gates: Porta Sant'Antonio Abate, Porta San Nicola, Porta Santa Maria della Croce, Porta San Leonardo, Porta Santa Cristina, and Porta San Paolo; only four of the six gates still exist, including this one.
