Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Centro Arti Plastiche Carrara as a 'hidden pearl' for its impressive blend of contemporary art and stunning historical architecture within a former convent. The interactive elements and unique exhibits, like the Twin Towers marble splinter, are highlights, complemented by kind staff and very affordable ticket prices. Some wish for more detailed information and better amenities like a functioning cafe.

"Very interesting museum. Especially interactive elements, can't post them here. Worth to attend"

"Very impressive museum, staff is very kind."

"A hidden pearl in Carrara: I say hidden because I didn't know it despite being from Massa, but it is essentially located in the centre, at the foot of the mouth. Located in an ancient convent, renovated for the purpose of hosting this museum of contemporary art, it would be worth the entrance even just from an architectural point of view. In addition to the temporary ones, the permanent mudac preserves a part of the artistic history of the city, the one linked to the biennials that were held in Carrara, and some absolutely grandiose pieces, such as the sculpture by Kounellis placed in the center of the cloister, and "Ah galla" by Viale. In addition to this, the museum also offers visitors a small insight into the history of marble, having on display, among other things, a series of photographs dedicated to the quarries and a stone splinter of Carrara marble that had been used in the twin towers, sent back here after 9/11.

The museum is not huge but there are several works on display, those who visit it carefully will need at least an hour and a half. Ticket prices are very low, full tickets cost 5 and reduced tickets 3, with many categories of applicability for both reductions and free tickets. I was sad to see the room dedicated to the bookshop and the bar disused, I hope that a greater turnout can bring new life to the museum.
The opening hours are not very convenient, and in some cases I would have liked explanatory plates that went into more detail about the works, since the museum does not offer an audio guide service."
