We walked from the center of Catania where we were staying for five days only to find that we would need to go to another station by Uber or bus and take the train there. It was hard to understand the woman at the counter - who really did try to help us find our way. It was great to at least view the station, though no trains were coming in or out at the time. Mt. Etna will have to wait till next trip. :("

At the time I was there, service was suspended between Catania and Paterno, with a replacement bus from Nesiima metro station (included in the train fare).
Tickets can be bought from the office at Borgo station, next to the Metro station (even though the trains don't run from there any more)."

"It was a real pleasure to ride on this one, my childish railroader heart was set afluttered. I'm glad that I heard of it by a colleague back home in Germany, otherwise I'd maybe missed it I assume. Had three very pleasurable 2-hour-breaks in Randazzo, Linguaglossa and Riposto, which were genuine gems beside the tracks. So was the ride in general, the breathtaking views on Mount Etna and the deep and wide-ranging valleys on the other side have a safe place inside my memory. Thank you for this marvellous adventure!"
