"Wonderful town"

Mauro Bussini

"Top"

Mike Fafoja

"The original construction dates back to 1450, and the last renovation dates back to the late 1700s.
It was built adjacent to the church of San Francesco dei Frati Minori Conventuali (one of the three families into which the Friars Minor are divided: Observants, Conventuals, and Capuchins), one of the most beautiful and popular in the city, as a place for the friars to stroll. It had only 12 arches. There were shops underneath, as they are today.
It enjoyed the benefices of Pope Clement XIV (Giovanni Ganganelli of Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna), who also came from the Friars Minor Conventual and was a friend of Father Bontempi, guardian of the Fabriano convent.
In 1799, it assumed its current form with 19 arches and was opened to the public for strolling.
The church was recklessly demolished in 1864 because it was declared unsafe, but perhaps because of excessive anticlericalism. A fellow Benedictine abbot, a witness to the events, wrote at the time that all those who were the main perpetrators of the devastation incurred divine punishment, afflicted by incurable ills."
