"The sixteenth century Palace, traditionally attributed to Ludovico Sforza known as il Moro, Duke of Milan, was actually owned by Antonio Costabili, Ludovico's secretary and an important figure in the court of Ercole I d'Este. The ducal architect Biagio Rossetti was the creator of the project.
In 1930 the Ministry decided that the building would be used as a headquarters for archaeological material from the Spina necropolis.
It is now a national archaeological museum which preserves evidence of the necropolis and the town of Spina.
