Reviews Summary

Visitors are divided, praising the astonishing quality of the Renaissance art and rich archaeological finds, but criticizing the museum's dated presentation, poor lighting, and lack of contextual information. The museum's app is a recommended tool to enhance the experience.

"I'd rate this museum 5 and 1 star at the same time. 5 stars for it being one of the most astonishing formerly private collections in the Florence area, not huge but including a number of beautiful artworks from the 13th to 16th c. that can compete with the big museums of Florence. 1 star, in turn for the abysmal presentation. Allegedly this display was reorganised several times, the last time in the 2000s - still it feels like a 1950s village museum. The lighting is horrible and the glare makes it impossible to see half of the exhibits properly. No attempt to contextualise anyhing - the paintings are just sorted more or less chronologically (with one exception, a random 18th c. portrait placed next to its 14th c. 'parallel', uncommented). The building itself seems to be neglected as well, plaster falling off the walls. Surely not a good environment for humidity-sensitive panel painting. Downstairs, a paper note reminds the staff (!) that it's not allowed to open the courtyard door for conservation reasons...
There seems to have been money, however, for a highly annoying gold framed video installation in the middle of the quattrocento room upstairs, which blocks the view to a few paintings and is so loud that it's hard to stay in the same room let alone contemplate the art on the entire floor. I have visited many museums over the years but this is a first - and there is not even any explanation, what this is supposed to be.
It's a shame that Bandini's exquisite collection went from a highly artistic display in an ancient church to a "rescue" in a most dull village museum setting."

"Small but very rich collections of Roman, Etruscan and Lombard artifacts. Visit the archiologicsl site yo see a beautiful Roman theater and the remaibs of baths and a temple. Incredible views."

John Carey

"An oasis of quietness in Fiesole. Great atmosphere and a pretty well conserved amfi theatre. Watch out for the small lizards cause they ran and jumped around the unbeaten paths, lol.
There's also a small bar and Restaurant with a stunning view over the ruins and the valley.
Tip: when you leave the site and go to thé left you'll find a beautiful piece of streetart in a little garden by Florentin artist Zed One"
