What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Fortezza da Basso for its impressive historical architecture and its role as a dynamic event venue, particularly for fashion shows like Pitti Uomo. Its central location and accessibility are also highlighted as major advantages. However, public access to the interior can be limited due to ongoing events, and some areas may be under construction.
"Whether it's a fashion event like Pitti Uomo or another international exhibition, Fortezza provides a unique and inspiring backdrop. The blend of beautifully preserved historical elements, like the ancient walls and internal monuments, with dedicated, modern exhibition spaces like the Spadolini and Cavaniglia Pavilions, creates a truly dynamic atmosphere.
Beyond its impressive event capabilities, it's also worth appreciating the fortress itself as a piece of Florentine history – a formidable Medici structure that once served as a symbol of power. Its central location and good accessibility, often with convenient public transport links nearby, make it an ideal choice for visitors and exhibitors alike. A truly remarkable place that seamlessly combines the past with the present for impactful events."

"FYI- I was told it was only for private events. So you can walk around it, see the medieval fortress from the outside, and explore the cute city park and lake nearby (Fontana della Fortezza da Basso), but you won’t be able to see much inside. I recommend a nice sit on a bench under a tree with the chirping crocuses around!!! Much of the outside of the fortress is also under construction as of July 2025."

"Recommended doing a tour in the historical part, otherwise it's just a place for events."
