Prepare for the Steps!

Baia di Sorgeto is famous for its natural thermal springs meeting the sea, but reaching it involves a significant descent (and ascent!) of around 300 steps. Wear comfortable shoes and be ready for a workout on your way back up. Reddit

Embrace the Natural Experience

This is a natural beach with thermal waters, not a manicured resort. While some areas offer chair rentals and food, many spots are free but can be crowded and rocky. Water shoes are highly recommended due to slippery rocks. TikTokReddit

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique experience of bathing in natural thermal springs that meet the sea, finding the waters therapeutic and the setting fascinating. While the 300 steps and slippery rocks are noted challenges, most agree it's a must-visit for its natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere. TikTokReddit

"An unquestionably fascinating and enjoyable experience. Here you can bathe at a place where volcanic hot springs meet the sea. Swim out further to refresh with cool, clean, sea water. Or swim closer to the volcanic source to feel the warm flow. Also here you can rent a sun chair and have a delicious bruschetta. Free areas are also available, but a little crowded and uncomfortable."

"Baia di sorgeto was absolutely fabulous! It’s totally free unless you want a lounge char, for which there is a price. They serve food at the bottom.

The water is incredible, ranging from very hot to cool. The farther away you get from the mouth of the thermal spa, the cooler it gets as the warm mixes with the cold. Very therapeutic.

I do recommend water socks with a good grip. The rocks are very slippery and potentially dangerous. Also, be prepared for 300 steps down and up.

I highly recommend and intend to return when I’m in Ischia again."

"Loved it here, you can rent beds and sun chairs (there are only around 8 of each). The bar serves food, drinks and icecream and you can buy swimming shoes as well, as the beach is rocky and slippery. The thermal area is relatively small. The hot water mixed with the colder sea water offers a very relaxing experience."

The 300 steps down and up can be challenging with young children or strollers, so consider carrying younger ones or opting for a water taxi if possible. Reddit The varying water temperatures offer an exciting sensory experience, but constant supervision is crucial to ensure children don't get too close to the hottest springs or slip on the rocks. Water shoes are a non-negotiable item for everyone in the family. TikTokReddit

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Magic of Thermal Springs

Baia di Sorgeto is a geological marvel where the island's volcanic activity creates natural thermal springs that bubble up directly into the sea. This phenomenon, linked to the Campi Flegrei volcanic complex, results in a unique bathing experience. The hot water mixes with the cooler seawater, creating a range of temperatures, from intensely hot near the source to pleasantly warm further out. Visitors often describe the water as therapeutic and incredibly relaxing. TikTokReddit+1

The experience is truly one-of-a-kind, with steam rising from the water and the distinct sensation of hot and cold currents mingling around you. It's a natural spa unlike any other, offering a chance to connect with the raw power of nature. Remember to test the water temperature carefully before immersing yourself, as it can be extremely hot in certain spots. Reddit

Navigating the Steps and Access

The journey to Baia di Sorgeto is as much a part of the experience as the springs themselves. Reaching the bay requires descending approximately 300 steps, a path that winds down the cliffside. While many find it manageable, it's a significant climb back up, especially in the heat. Reddit

Travelers often discuss the best way to approach this challenge. Some recommend taking it slow, with frequent breaks, while others suggest wearing sturdy footwear. For those seeking a more comfortable arrival or departure, a water taxi service is available, offering a scenic and less strenuous alternative, particularly for reaching nearby Sant'Angelo. TikTokReddit

What to Expect on the Beach

Baia di Sorgeto is a natural, rocky beach. While there are areas where you can rent sun loungers and chairs for a fee, and a small bar serving food and drinks, much of the beach is free to use. These free areas can become crowded, and the rocky terrain means comfortable footwear is essential. TikTokReddit

Community reviews highlight the importance of water shoes due to the slippery rocks. Some visitors have noted debris in certain areas, which can be a minor annoyance. Despite these points, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the therapeutic waters and the unique natural setting. Reddit
