What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Abbazia di San Rabano for its beautiful, atmospheric, and fascinating ruins set in desolate nature. The hiking trails from Alberese are appreciated, though some encountered issues with insects like wasps and caterpillars, particularly in mid-May. The panoramic towers offer great views.
"Beautiful and atmospheric.
Unfortunately, I was having some “wasp issues”, which prevented me from lingering longer.
This is part of the trail A1 (10€ ticket, can be bought on the spot at the office in Alberese)."
Maya Meier
"A very beautiful and fascinating place immersed in desolate nature. We went during the week and there was no one there. It would be nice to visit more than just the abbey, such as the church and the towers. The place is very evocative, however. We parked next to the Alberese cemetery and started the hike. It's an easy walk, taking an hour and a half. We went during this time (mid-May), and it was FULL of caterpillars that fell on us every now and then, and it was impossible to sit down because they were literally everywhere."
Edoardo Del Corso
"By mountain bike... climb from the cemetery for 5 km. Once you reach the beautiful ruins of San Rabano, you descend along a lovely single track (with two panoramic towers), sometimes flowy, sometimes a bit more technical... to reach the olive grove plain. Be careful of pedestrians coming up that side. A very fun descent, suitable only for mountain bikes."
