What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Museo della Balestra for its rich collection and the passionate dedication of its staff, offering a deep dive into crossbow history and Gubbio's Palio tradition. The museum's location within the beautiful Palazzo del Bargello is also a significant draw, enhancing the overall historical atmosphere.
"Small but rich museum recently re-arranged inside the Palazzo del Bargello, whose rooms are particularly beautiful and authentic (even by the standards of Gubbio).
The Museum is dedicated both to the crossbow itself, with the explanation of the components and the exhibition of ancient examples and faithful reconstructions, and to the centuries-old event of the Palio della Balestra, with an exhibition of costumes, palii, etc..
When the Museum reopened I had the pleasure of meeting the passionate and very kind President of the Gubbio Balestrieri Society Marcello Cerbella, and the historic crossbowman and multiple winner of the Palio Giampiero Bicchielli.
A concentration of tradition and passion that is truly worth a visit!"
