What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Church of Santa Maria Assunta for its beautiful architecture and valuable artworks, particularly the Andrea della Robbia Ancona. However, some note that maintenance could be improved, and audio clarity during services is an issue. Despite these minor points, it's considered a worthwhile visit for its historical and artistic significance.
"Great - Memories of stonemason architecture"
Kalle Katevuo
"Definitely a beautiful church, but it should be better maintained. Chandeliers to be cleaned, light points to be replaced and audio during the religious service to be improved. It is not possible to understand what the parish priest is saying. Good cleaning and good distancing inside. There are several frescoes and a very large altarpiece that overlooks the entrance. Absolutely worth seeing, better if with a guide."
Simone Bartolomei
"The church of Santa Maria Assunta is located in the historic center of La Spezia.
The building was built in the 15th century but, due to the bombings it suffered during the Second World War, it was rebuilt (as we see it today) in the second half of the 20th century.
The exterior is in neo-Romanesque style.
The interior is in neo-Renaissance style.
The valuable features of the church are:
- The glazed terracotta Ancona by Andrea della Robbia
- works by local artists.
Free admission."
